MO Parent Poll 2024

The PRiME Center at Saint Louis University and the Office of Education Policy at the University of Arkansas commissioned YouGov to survey 900 Missouri and Arkansas parents of school-aged children to find out what they think about the education issues facing their communities. The poll was administered from May 16 to June 3, 2024.

In the following slide deck, we summarize only the Missouri parents’ responses (n = 450).
Key Points:
Five-day school week (5DSW) parents are divided on the four-day school week (4DSW), but current 4DSW parents support it
5DSW parents expect to see student outcomes mostly improve with the adoption of the four-day school week and current 4DSW parents are seeing improved attendance, attitudes toward school, & overall academic performance
5DSW parents expect family outcomes will mostly stay the same with the adoption of a four-day school week and 4DSW parents report that this is the case, except for improvements in the family schedule
A majority of parents cite concerns about academic standards (66%) and an emphasis on moral instruction (58%) as reasons for homeschooling their child(ren)
89% of parents believe it is likely that their child(ren) will attend college
Most parents more accurately estimate Missouri teachers’ minimum salaries than average salaries
Parents are more likely to advise a young adult to pursue teaching than they are their own child
Nine in ten Missouri parents support the May 2024 passage of Senate Bill 727
Only one quarter of parents know Missouri has an ESA program, but 90% support it
Almost three quarters of parents report their child does not currently use a tutor
