Missouri’s 2019 ACT Results: What Do the Scores Mean?
ACT scores for the class of 2019 were published this month. More than half of graduates nationwide participate in this college entrance exam. Missouri's participation rate dropped from 100 percent in 2016 through 2018 down to 82 percent in 2019. As the sample of students taking the test has shrunk, the average Composite and subsection scores has increased. This is reflective of the sample of participants who are likely more motivated to apply to and enroll in college who are taking the test. The participation rate in Missouri is similar to the overall average of the neighboring states. Compared to our neighbors and individual states with similar participation rates, Missouri had higher average Composite and subsection scores. In this policy brief we describe what Missouri’s ACT scores for the class of 2019 mean.
